The University of Detroit Mercy Commerce and Finance Building was originally built in 1927 and in need of renovation. LaSalle was contracted to perform a complete interior renovation and total exterior preservation of this classic building.
The red tile roof and carved sandstone walls were restored to their original condition. New windows designed to match the old deteriorated original windows were installed. New exterior stairs, ramps, lighting and landscaping were also added.
Historically significant tile and woodworking were preserved at the building entry. Textured ceramic tile and oak trim finishes were added to provide a warm and inviting atmosphere. The project also included new alumni and college board rooms, student welcoming center, student study center, classrooms, faculty and staff administration offices, two technology enhanced classrooms, two global learning centers featuring audio, video and computer technologies as well as new mechanical and electrical systems.
